The Work of McDermott Glass Studio

The Sandwich Glass Museum proudly presents important works by outstanding glassblowers David McDermott and his talented wife Yukimi Matsumoto. These two artists are passionate about their work and their magnificent pieces speak for themselves. They now tutor a young apprentice, Bryan Randa. Together they work in collaboration with noted artisans Rick Ayotte and Brian Volkhausen.

Their combined talents produce extraordinary creations. They work together with passion, precision and timing and their use of color and the results are not only rewarding but also mesmerizing.

David learned the European style of glass blowing under the tutelage of Robbie Mason, master glassblower at Pairpoint. He met his wife, Yukimi Matsumoto, a graduate of the Osaka Designer School in Japan, at a class at the Corning Institute of Glass. She then went on to apprentice under McDermott at Pairpoint and the rest is history. After 30 years at Pairpoint he fulfilled his dream of owning his own studio, The McDermott Glass Studio, and marrying his true love.
