DIMENSIONS: Bill Mayer
The Sandwich Glass Museum is proud to present “DIMENSIONS” by Bill Mayer, exciting new glass artist. This exhibition represents the artist’s passion for glass. He is intrigued by the freedom to create color patterns with such intricacy and depth, while retaining fluid form.
Growing up in NJ, Billy always expressed himself creatively. After spending a few years in college as a theatre major, Billy decided that was not for him. While searching for a new way to express himself, he met Rex Cravet, an accomplished flame worker. Billy spent six months studying with Rex. This study gave him a strong basis for flame work to follow.
In the summer of 2000, he moved to Cape Cod. He started an apprenticeship at “The Glass Studio on Cape Cod” under Michael Magyar. Between working weekly in a hot shop and honing his skills as a flame worker, Billy began to combine the two techniques. The combination of intricate designs (flame work) and learning to master the sheer size of hot glass, his technique began to take form. Billy, a somewhat newly accomplished glass blower himself, has worked with glass masters from Italy, Japan and the United States. He is determined and his work is open-minded. His future work will continue to explore the harmony between simple and complex glass.
This enthralling and unique exhibit is being presented at the Museum from September 12 through October 31, 2007. A not-to-be missed visit. Free with admission. For Information call 508.888.0251 Sandwich Glass Museum. 129 Main Street, Sandwich, MA 02563
